Exam stories – student competition to win an iPad mini

	Exams change lives. Practice tests improve results. We are collecting real stories of how our Official Practice Tests have changed students’ lives. And the best story will win an iPad mini. Students need to upload their written story (up to 100 words) or their video story (up to 2 minutes) on our website for a chance to win an iPad mini. Students need to be aged 18 to enter the competition or aged 13–17 and have parent/guardian consent.

2014-2015 GIRL RISING

A FILM:              GIRL RISING

A film that tells us the story of 9 girls in different countries of the world with one thing in common :

The power to change their lives. How?  fighting to get an  EDUCATION.

The American Embassy has kindly given us the chance to learn about this project of Educating Girls to change the world.  Students in 1st, 2nd and 3rd of eso are going to work on it and watch this film.

NEWS AT ALDEBARÁN

Our Bilingual programe keeps growing every year. This school year 3rd of eso is bilingual as well . 

New teachers and new projects as well new students in 1º eso have come to our school. 

NEW PROGRAME:      GLOBAL CLASSROOMS   

Global Classrooms is a competition organized by the United nations to encourage students to participate in important world issues,  to make them aware of the problems in our world and  to give them the tools to fight for a better world. 

Some of our students will compete with other schools in Madrid in January in debates carried out as if in the United Nations.  Only one student will win a trip to New York. 

This project  is carried out in 3rd of eso groups A and B during their Social Studies lessons.

Their Social Studies Teacher : Mª Jesús H. and the Language Assistant: Sophie Amado, appointed by the American Fulbright Programe  are training and working with students  in this year topic:

 GENDER EQUALITY AND THE EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN

THE MILLIONS GAZETTE 

2 eso Sección students completed their assignment of reading the novel "MILLIONS" by  Frank Cotter Boyle with a team task: recreating the story in five newspaper articles.

Their superb work of re-writing the story, with the help of Rachel (Language Assistant), is now displayed on the classroom wall.

Afterwards they learnt to read the news as if it was on the BBC.

They also interviewed the main characters, which gave them the chance to ask them about their thoughts and feelings.

There have been workshops, concerts, a lecture about Aldebarán (the star), games, karaokes...

Long discussions in the Hall  trying to win the competition: "Guess who that baby is.."

                                
On May, 29th and 30th  there are going to be fun activities at Aldebarán School to celebrate  its 25th anniversary.

Madrid Live is the only English-language radio programme which focuses on the arts, entertainment and social scene in Madrid. Madrid Live is also the only medium in the capital to broadcast interviews with English-speaking celebrities in their original language without dubbing or subtitles. Hence it provides an essential service to tourists and to the 250,000 English-speaking residents, be they native English speakers or Spanish.

Produced and presented by British journalist Ann Bateson, Madrid Live is broadcast twice weekly on Radio Círculo, Spain's leading cultural radio station, which is located at the prestigious Círculo de Bellas Artes. The latest survey confirms Radio Círculo has over 130,000 regular listeners.

WE RECOMMEND OUR STUDENTS TO ATTEND:

AMAZING DEBATE SESSIONS.

2º Bachiller A,B,C  Ampliación de Inglés have carried out  four days of Debates in the school Library.   The topics have ranged from euthanasia to illegal downloads, the danger of video

games, etc.   Congratulations to all them because both the research on the topic ( examples, studies...) and the presentations have been outstanding!

All the Bilingual Section ( 1ºa, 1ºb eso and 2ºc, 2ºd eso) groups have attended the sessions in turns. They have showed great interest, participated enthusiastically asking difficult and intelligent questions and have voted for the most convincing side. 

Perhaps the biggest surprise was the last day when they voted against illegal downloads from Internet. No doubt the great performance  and persuasive arguments of the students debating the topic had their effect.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT

All 2 eso groups played Christmas Carols with their recorders accompanied by their music teacher on the piano. 

1 eso sang " The twelfth days of Christmas" along with Tyler and Marlowe.
